let sleeping dogs lie

let sleeping dogs lie is an exploration of grief as experienced through a lifetime. Prarthana Aggarwal’s debut poetry chapbook wakes up amidst the dog days, combining extracts from dream journals with reflections from sleepless nights to disentangle the convergence of missing sisters, familial resentments, and idiot boys. Using verse spangled with idioms and sleeping dogs, this chapbook struggles with the itch of religion, the obsessive nature of consumption and love, the heirloom pain of accents and superstitions, and the nature of kismet. By the end of this collection, Aggarwal reconciles bittersweet memory and missed connections with forgiveness, the light of gratitude, and learning to live without talking about everything.
