Sunset in the Press
Sunset Press reading invites poetry prose and community
“Cracking open their notebooks and turning on their phones, some of Kenyon’s finest writers stood in front of a rapt audience at the Horn and shared their writing at the Sunset Press Open mic on Wednesday. Featuring prose, poems and even one journal entry, topics ranged from familial relationships to isolation.“
Sunset Press shares poetry in collaboration with Tiny Rug
“On Sunday night, the bookstore’s Tiny Rug Concert broke from the usual cozy acoustic concerts for a celebration of poetry. Students sat cross-legged as they listened to Sunset Press’ 2024 writers — Nicole Wang ’26, Will Madden ’26 and Dawsen Mercer ’26 — share their poems and short stories from their forthcoming chapbooks, followed by an hour-long open mic that welcomed other talented Kenyon poets to read their work.“
Sunset Press hosts open mic featuring chapbook writers
“Those who had the pleasure of attending Sunset Press’s open mic on Friday night at the Horn Gallery were given an array of performances that showcased many talented writers. Sunset Press is a student-run literary publication that selects writers each year from the student body to publish. The process takes a year to complete, as writers’ pieces are workshopped before they’re published in chapbooks in the spring. I was fortunate enough to listen to some of the pieces that the writers of 2022-23 have been working so hard on. During the open mic night, those who were not part of Sunset Press were also given the opportunity to volunteer their own writing pieces and had the chance to read aloud personal selections. It was great being able to hear a variety of stories, prose and poems from so many aspiring writers. “
This year’s Sunset Press writers will explore diverse themes
“Sunset Press — Kenyon’s first and only student-run publishing press — will publish three books this spring by Ilan Magnani ’24, Josie Girand ’22 and Stephanie Chang ’25, all with different styles and subjects distinct from any work from past publications.”

Sunset Press launches free summer writing program for teens
“Sunset Press, the first — and only — student-run publishing press at Kenyon, has created a new venture to extend the scope of their work: a summer workshop targeting teens interested in creative writing.”
Kenyon’s first student-run publishing press makes its debut
“The founders of Sunset Press, Kenyon’s first student-run literary press, jokingly refer to their organization as a ‘family business.’ It’s easy to understand why: The team behind Sunset Press worked closely with poet Virginia Kane ’22 and prose writer Jenny Tie ’21 to edit, design and market books of each writer’s work, all within the span of eight weeks.”
