SOPHIA COSSITT-LEVY

to my three best friends

it’s been a year, three months, and a number of days
since that school trip to D.C.,
where we got left behind at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial,
where i took too many pictures,
where we sat on a circle on the floor in the hotel room,
sipping capri-suns and eating candy,
trying to laugh quietly.

it’s been a year, a month, and a number of days
since we graduated middle school.
i cried and pulled you all in close
before leaving.

it’s been seven months, and a number of days
since we all were in the same room.
you came to my house.
we sat on the floor by the tree,
passed gifts around for secret santa,
ate pizza and cookies,
and took videos of ourselves for no reason at all.

i think we should get together again soon,
and talk about everything,
and laugh until we can’t breathe.
